Social, political, and culture change engineer, Waikinya J.S. Clanton is a leading strategic advisor to the Democratic National Committee. Having previously served as the Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the DNC, Tom Perez and now, Jaime Harrison, Clanton provided guidance on matters of race, culture, and community, having most recently been tapped to lead the organization’s internal and external responses around civil unrest in the United States and abroad.
This skilled chief political also serves as an equity advisor to the international beauty brand, Sephora, where she is a member of the multi-generational, interracial thought leader table that is responsible for helping direct more than $1 Million in donations to national civic and human rights organizations as well as helping to design the company’s internal racial equity assessment framework.
Before joining the DNC, Clanton served as Executive Director for the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women), where she proudly reestablished the organization’s training program for African American women interested in political, corporate, and/or nonprofit leadership; worked with its Board of Directors to revise its accounting practices; managed its operating and programmatic budgets while managing its staff and serving as chief spokesperson for the organization.
In addition to being a leading political and equity expert, Clanton is also the owner of a leadership coaching firm that specializes in confidence and candidate coaching and leadership diversity, WJS Consulting, LLC, and is the founder of the life, leadership, and business performance tech startup, Akoko, Inc. She is the recipient of a number of national awards including the National Rosa Parks Day Rising Star Award and the Action and Authority Award given by the National Action Network. Waikinya is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and a devote member of the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
